Rolex Deepsea Blue 126660 Watch Review

The brand-new Rolex Deepsea Sea-Dweller Reference 126660 was introduced at Baselworld 2018, and it took the watch lovers’ community by a storm. Rolex seemed to have taken watch collectors’ suggestions into account as the new version stays true to its original predecessor. However, it does offer modern updates, aesthetics, and movement.

The Beast

Rolex Deepsea Sea-Dweller Reference 126660 was given the nickname “The Beast” by the community since it’s the largest watch in Rolex’s current collection.

The New Dial

The dial still religiously follows the aesthetics from James Cameron Diving Blue, aptly named “D-Blue. The watch was also released in an all-black and traditional dial. The indices have been thinned down, and the stick indices at 6 and 9’o clock have been trimmed down to appear thinner.

Moreover, Rolex decided to match the font of the “Original Gas Escape Valve” and “Ring Lock System” to the “Deepsea” text on the dial instead of the “Superlative Chronometer” as in the previous 2014’s model.

The length of seconds and minutes is also new and revised. Rather than falling slightly short of the inner and outer edges of the chapter ring indices, then second and minutes hands’ have been extended by about a millimeter to allow the hands to perfectly align.

However, one thing that the audience was looking forward to was the reduction of text from the dial. Rolex has decided to keep the previous text on the dial and has changed nothing in that arena.

The Case

Rolex has also re-designed the 44mm stainless steel case for the watch. The re-designed lugs now have rounded taper and small size adjustment. Moreover, the new re-designed lugs are also millimeter thinner than the previous version of the watch.

This re-adjustment has also forced Rolex to re-design the bracelet. The new bracelet is now widened by a millimeter and is even more tapered to adjust to the original lugs.

Rolex has also re-adjusted and re-designed the Oysterlock clasp to adjust accordingly with the new model. However, it still features the micro-adjustments and allows 2mm increments for comfortability and support.

The overall case is now re-designed and feels tighter, slimmer, and more comfortable around the wrist. It is bulkier, but it feels more comfortable due to the new designs. The watch lover community appreciated the new cleaner and utilitarian look of Rolex Deepsea Sea-Dweller Reference 126660.

The Movement Inside

Rolex has given a new heart to this version, and it beats better and more powerful than before. The new enhanced movement is the magnificent and coveted Perpetual Calibre 3235. This forceful movement was recently used for Sea-Dweller, Day-Date, and Datejust models as well.

Rolex also took advantage of its patented Chronergy escapement and Parachrom hairspring to make sure that the watch has a natural resistance to magnetism. The watch is also ten times less susceptible to shock-related precision issues.

Rolex also claimed that it paired the powerful escapement’s efficiency with a new barrel architecture, and the new watch now features a 70 hours' power reserve. This is a step up from the previous 50 hours' power reserve and movement.

Other Bells and Whistles

Since the new movement has undergone Rolex’s meticulous certification process, Rolex Deepsea Sea-Dweller Reference 126660 runs at +2 seconds per day and features a 5-year warranty.

The hour markers and hands are made of Chromalight display, which makes it easier to read in the dark. Moreover, the watch is also water-resistant up to 3,900 meters, which is quite impressive.
